Your gift will be doubled...
From now until June 10, 2011, every contribution that you make to PFLAG National will automatically be worth twice as much.
That's because a generous PFLAG National supporter who wishes to remain anonymous has stepped up and established a $100,000 Matching Gift Fund. With this tremendous opportunity to double the impact of your support for PFLAG National, I urge you to act now and make a Matching Gift contribution.
This $100,000 Matching Gift Fund comes at exactly the right time, because our anti-gay opponents are ramping up their efforts to derail our safe schools and anti-bullying campaigns.
According to Focus on the Family, "'Anti-bullying' initiatives are gay activists' latest tools of choice for sneaking homosexuality lessons into classrooms. 'Safety' is being used as a political arm-twisting tool to force an adult agenda into schools."
Only in the twisted world of the radical right could safe schools and stopping bullying be warped into something so sinister and divisive. But PFLAG National will fight back and continue to work in classrooms, in state legislatures, and in Congress to build a country where every student is free to learn in safety and equality.
Our opponents are determined to stop us at all costs. And that's why I need you to stay in the equality fight. With our $100,000 Matching Gift Fund set to expire on June 10, please take a moment to make a special contribution to PFLAG National.

48 hours to Stop Uganda's Gay Death Penalty
Subject: 48 Hours to Stop Uganda's Gay Death Penalty
Thanks for signing the petition against this law last year -- we stopped it then, but it's being brought back! Let's get to 1 million -- forward the email below!
Dear friends,
In 48 hours, the Ugandan Parliament may vote on a brutal new law that carries the death penalty for homosexuality. Thousands of Ugandans could face execution -- just for being gay.
In 48 hours, Uganda could pass a law that imposes the death penalty for homosexuality. An international outcry shelved this bill last year -- we urgently need to ramp up the pressure to press President Museveni to stand up for human rights and stop this brutal law. Sign below, and tell everyone:
We've helped stop this bill before, and we can do it again. After a massive global outcry last year, Ugandan President Museveni blocked the bill's progress. But political unrest is mounting in Uganda, and religious extremists in Parliament are hoping confusion and violence in the streets will distract the international community from a second push to pass this hate-filled law. We can show them that the world is still watching. If we block the vote for two more days until Parliament closes, the bill will expire forever.
We have no time to lose. Almost half a million of us have already joined the call -- let's get to one million voices against Uganda's gay death penalty in the next 48 hours -- click here to take action, then forward this email to everyone:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/uganda_stop_homophobia_petition_2/?vl
For Frank and thousands of others, being gay in Uganda is already dangerous and terrifying. They are regularly harassed and beaten, and just months ago, gay rights activist, David Kato (pictured above), was brutally murdered in his own home. Now LGBT Ugandans are threatened by this draconian law which imposes life imprisonment for people convicted of same-sex relations and the death penalty for "serial offenders". Even NGOs working to prevent the spread of HIV can be imprisoned for "promoting homosexuality" under this hate-filled law.
Right now, Uganda is in political turmoil -- in the wake of the Arab spring, people across the country are taking to the streets, protesting high food and gas prices. President Museveni has responded by violently cracking down on the opposition. This upheaval has provided religious extremists in Parliament the perfect chance to slip in the shelved anti-gay bill just days before Parliament closes and all proposed laws are wiped from the books.
Museveni backed away from this bill last year after international pressure threatened Uganda's aid and support. With violent protests sweeping the streets, Museveni is more vulnerable than ever. In the next 48 hours, let's build a massive international outcry in support of respect for human rights, justice and tolerance and against the gay death penalty. Together we can save lives by stopping this bill -- sign below, then tell friends and family:
http://www.avaaz.org/en/uganda_stop_homophobia_petition_2/?vl
Earlier this year, we stood in solidarity with Uganda's equality movement to show that every human life, no matter what creed, nationality or sexual orientation, is equally precious. Our international petition condemning the gay death penalty law was delivered to Parliament – spurring a global news story and enough pressure to block the bill for months. When a tabloid newspaper published 100 names, pictures and addresses, of suspected gays and those identified were threatened, Avaaz supported a legal case against the paper and we won! Our community has funded security for gay rights activists and operational funding for gay rights organizations. Together we have stood up, time and time again, for Uganda's gay community -- now they need us more than ever.
With hope and determination,
Emma, Iain, Alice, Morgan, Brianna and the rest of the Avaaz team

Dooley a world premiere begins Thursday
Dooley begins this week;
A World Premiere Event May 5-29
In 1954 Doctor Tom Dooley, a young gay charismatic Navy officer, finds his life's work in the stark reality of the Cold War and the refugee camps of South East Asia. Based on historic fact, Dooley tells the remarkable story of humanitarian Tom Dooley, whose career was derailed by the threat of exposing his sexuality long before "Don't Ask Don't Tell." With rich theatrical magic this cross-cultural epic transports us to a world as complex and contradictory as the man himself-torn between fear and idealism, selfishness and self-denial, hypocrisy and valor, crassness and mysticism.
The play follows Dooley's high-flying career as "Doctor America," inspiring an idealistic nation to look beyond its borders and prompting John F. Kennedy to establish the Peace Corps. Incorporating music, dance and masks, the play presents a portrait of a man committed to those caught in geopolitical struggles, who falls victim to sexual politics.
Dooley is directed by Cynthia Stokes and features Robert Borzych as Dr. Tom Dooley. Cast members include Noah Longton, Jesse MacKinnon, Terril Miller, Charlie Riendeau, Allison Riley, Shaun Tuazon and Reed Willard. The Dooley design and production team includes Matt Scott (Set), Michelle Caron (Lights), Jennifer Brawn Gittings (Costumes), Michael Mizerany (Choreography), Blair Robert Nelson (Composer), David Medina (Properties), Rosina Reynolds (Dramaturg), Chris Powell (Stage Manager) and Bret Young (Production Manager). An original score by Blair Robert Nelson has been commissioned for the production thanks to a grant by the James Irvine Foundation.
Underwritten in part by
The James Irvine Foundation and Carlos Malamud.

Audience participation and discussion will be strongly encouraged. Topics will include how to define bisexuality, the Klein Sexual Orientation Grid and its significance, stereotypes surrounding sexual orientation and gender identity in general, myths and misconceptions of bisexuality, and more. This event is free, open to all, and will take place in The Center's library.
